Axial Flow (Down Flow) Reactor Internals

Axial flow reactors operate with fluid flowing vertically from top to bottom, enabling chemical reactions as process fluids come into contact with catalyst media. In a typical two bed down flow reactor arrangement, process fluid is distributed across the distributor tray below via an inlet diffuser. This distributor tray ensures uniform liquid distribution onto the underlying catalyst bed, which is supported by a catalyst support grid. Further downstream inside the reactor lies the quench zone, where injected cooling gas reduces process?fluid temperature before the stream enters the mixing chamber. Another distributor tray distributes liquid from the mixing chamber onto the subsequent catalyst bed. Located at the reactor bottom, the outlet collector bears the load of the lower catalyst bed and facilitates discharge of reacted fluids out of the reactor vessel.
